In 1991, the SigEp national fraternity created the Balanced Man Program, a member development program the first of its kind. The program is focused on continual, holistic member development that promotes balanced living and combats destructive behavior; the Balanced Man Program is more than just a program — it’s the center of the SigEp experience.
The program is a continuous development experience focused on scholarship, leadership, and life skills that complements EWU’s classroom curriculum. The refinement of these crucial skills helps our brothers succeed upon graduation and prepares them to achieve balance and satisfaction in every aspect of their lives.
The Balanced Man Program sets SigEp apart within the Greek community and other student organizations at Eastern and nationwide. Because of this unique program, SigEp does not pledge and recruits throughout the year.
The program is based on five philosophical tenets:
- Equal Rights and Responsibilities – Full membership upon joining
- Continuous Development – Growing throughout life
- Accountability – Committing to SigEp’s high standards
- Living the Ritual – Incorporating SigEp’s values into everyday life
- Mentoring – Maximize growth through guidance and support

Balanced Man Scholarship
Attending college is no cheap venture. The Washington Gamma Chapter provides Balanced Man scholarships each year to help offset expenses. Deserving balanced men who are beginning their transition into university life at EWU are encouraged to apply for the scholarship. The scholarship is available to freshman and transfer students entering their first fall quarter.
